XC races are scored according to category (Cat 1, 2, 3, Junior, First Timer) and class (age). Race length is determined by estimating how many laps can be completed in the following time frames:

35 minutes for Junior / Cat 3 / First Timers
70 minutes for Cat 2
105+ minutes for Cat 1 / Pro

The number of laps, or course length, will vary between the courses but will take into consideration time frames listed above. In other words expect to race about the same time at each course, with consideration to trail conditions.

Marathon races are scored by the number of completed laps within a 3 hour time frame.  A racer cannot start a new lap after the 3 hour mark.  Laps started before the 3 hour mark but finished after the 3 hour mark count!

Weather

In case of inclement weather, watch nebraskacyclingnews.com for updates Friday afternoon and evening before race date. In our experience, wet trails on Saturday are often rideable on Sunday, hence: if weather forces cancellation, the Sunday immediately following the Saturday race date is the default reschedule date. Events rescheduled to Sunday will have adjusted start times to start later in the day.

The Course:

This new trail network is just short of five miles with over 800 feet of climbing per lap. The trail system is laced into dense tree growth in some areas and opens up into fast open stretches in others. A roller coaster area of fallen logs, steep ups and quick drops awaits riders in the middle of the system.

The Venue:

The recreation area offers modern showers, rest rooms, and running water. There is good fishing at the lake with boat docks available. The area also features a swimming beach, walking and horseback trails, a disk golf course and ample camping. The campgrounds are some of the nicest anywhere with both primitive and modern areas.

Direction:

Maskenthine Lake Recreation Area is located five miles north of Stanton and 10 miles east of Norfolk. It is an easy drive up highway 275 to Stanton and then north on 10th Street out of town three miles to the lake.
