Race Distances - 1 lap = 5 miles
The best of the best in this state, PRSP is set in the tree-lined hills above the Platte River. Parts of the trails are technically challenging, offering racers miles of power rolling single track. But to get to the holy grail, racers will first have to tackle the long double-track horse trails at the start. There are lots of roller coaster sections and a rocky stream bed that will definitely raise the pucker factor, too! Race loop is approximately 5 miles for all levels.
Platte River State Park, is located between Louisville, NE and South Bend. The park is great family gathering place. It features many cabins (call ahead to reserve), each in their own semi-private area with a picnic table and fire pit. Or rent a TeePee! There is a pool, a pond for paddle boating, tennis courts, modern bathrooms and visitor’s center. On the east side of the park is a five-story observation tower. If you’re not racing, test your lungs with a climb to the top. You’ll be rewarded with a prime view of the Platte River valley.
One-day state park permit required. You can purchase one here.
Directions from I-80:
Take Hwy 50/144th St. exit south through Louisville. Once past Louisville, take a right turn on HWY 66 for not quite a mile. Watch for the park sign on the right. You can also take the Platte exit 426 off of I-80 and head east through South Bend. Once at the park entrance kiosk, take a right and follow the road past the tower and then take a right at the intersection. Follow the road down a steep hill. Park in the designated spots on pavement.
NOTE: Driving down the gravel road is not permitted by anyone unless approved by park officials first. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION.
